No need to wait for Turkey Day leftovers when D.C. chefs are already creating epic Thanksgiving-inspired sandwiches.

🦃 Your Only Friend (Shaw)
Chef Paul Taylor and Sherra Kurtz tell us they're flying through 100 massive Thanksgiving sandos a day at their newly Michelin-awarded sandwich bar.
- The classic: Smoked turkey, gravy-mayo, "fancy jellied cranberry," boxed stuffing — plus a gravy sidecar.
- The veg option: A "Sandwich of Sides" with roasted sweet potato, caramelized Brussels, pickled cranberries and fried shallots.
The intrigue: The owners guess their $18 sandwiches clock in at 1.5 lbs each.
- "We mostly weigh these sandwiches in good feelings, and if we're weighing those — they're real heavy."

Chef Mike Friedman's focaccia shop gives Thanksgiving an Italian twist.
- Think roasted turkey, sage stuffing, cranberry sauce and garlic aioli between slabs of fresh focaccia ($15).

A comfort food dream team: the mod diner + 2Fifty BBQ.
- The griddled milk bread sandwich is piled with wood-smoked turkey, turkey-sausage stuffing, cranberry sauce and melty fontina cheese ($17).
- Dunking in turkey-sausage gravy is encouraged.
