The government may be shut down — but four new D.C. bars just opened their doors.
The Harp Cask and Kiln | Brookland
A real-deal Irish pub from three Barrel alums (including Cork County native Ruairi Deburca). Expect properly poured Guinness, ox pie and Gaelic on the menu.
- They're going for neighborhood charm — a kid's menu, TVs for game days, Irish whiskeys for nippy nights and a cozy patio.

Cowbell Seafood & Oyster Bar |Union Market
Maryland-born chef Reid Shilling opens a nostalgia-fueled oyster bar inside Union Market with partner Sara Quinteros.
- Slurp oysters, dig into Baltimore crab cakes and crispy blue catfish sandwiches, or splurge on a seafood tower with beers and bubbles.
Proper Bar | Mt. Vernon Triangle
The team behind Proper 21 just launched a big, swanky bar with deep booths, strong drinks and thick burgers.
- Live piano keeps it classy.
Riff Raff Room | Adams Morgan
A 22-seat speakeasy inside Johnny Pistolas where bar pro Jon Schott serves 40+ sustainable cocktails — no trash cans involved.
