Howard University celebrates 101st homecoming, plus D.C. weekend events

It's Howard University homecoming weekend, with a big college football game, open houses, and special alumni events.

Why it matters: The Bisons have a lot to celebrate with this year's theme of "One of One," including recent academic gains that propelled the school to become the first and only HBCU to gain Research One status.

State of play: Howard's Greene Stadium will host Morgan State for a football showdown on Saturday afternoon. General admission tickets are $100, and $65 for seniors, children, students and employees.

Yard Fest, a big homecoming tradition, will run Friday and Saturday, with an alumni tent, live performances, and vendors.
The College of Pharmacy and the College of Engineering and Architecture are having open houses for prospective students.

More weekend fun:

🍷 A Halloween wine and candy pairing class is being held at the Eastern on Capitol Hill on Saturday, 12:30-3pm. $55 tickets

🎃 Mount Vernon welcomes families for trick-or-treating at George Washington's former estate on Saturday afternoon. Tickets are around $30

🌕 Twilight In Concert brings the Twilight cinematic universe to the National Theatre, with live music performed alongside the showing of the original movie on Friday and Saturday. Tickets start around $115

📕 The Rare Book Collecting Festival runs this Friday through Sunday at multiple locations, including Georgetown University and the historic Hillwood Estate. Tickets start at $20 (or half off for federal workers).

🐶 The 5th Annual Dog Halloween Costume Contest held by Navy Yard's Scarlet Oak and Side Door Pizza takes place Sunday afternoon. Bring your dressed-up pups and find drink specials for all. More info
