Where can you get a cut, cocktail and caviar-topped duck? Manifest 002 opens Tuesday near Union Market — and it's already Michelle Obama-approved.
Why it matters: The barber shop/boutique/speakeasy/restaurant is a bigger, glossier sibling of Manifest Adams Morgan, which launched mid-pandemic.
What you'll find at the day-to-night venue:
- (H)ours: An upscale spot from Maketto chef Erik Bruner-Yang.
- After (H)ours: Speakeasy lounge with a DJ booth.
- Barista bar + kopitiam-inspired cafe (coming soon).
- Barbershop with its own apothecary line.
- Retail stocked with fashion-forward menswear, womenswear and sneakers.
- Private dining/event space.
The intrigue: Manifest offers memberships — similar to the original — starting at $75/month, with perks like free use of private spaces.
- Founder KJ Hughes likens it to a rewards card vs. private club. "It's not a barrier to entry. It's a way for us to cater more to you," he tells Axios.
On the menu: Dishes that pay homage to Bruner-Yang's 20 years in D.C.
- Think caviar-topped Peking duck bites — a nod to the iconic Peking Gourmet Inn in Falls Church.
In your glass: Cocktails with local flair — like "Mumbo or Mild," a sochu-based sip inspired by the signature D.C. sauce.
Fuel up: The team is running on the "House Remix" — half espresso, half black tea with condensed coconut and oat milk.
