The Marion Barry Avenue Market & Cafe opens Saturday in Anacostia, bringing local produce, groceries and a soul food restaurant to a neighborhood long underserved by healthy food options.
Driving the news: The market, backed by José Andrés' Longer Tables Fund, is a food justice nonprofit initiative from Dreaming Out Loud.
- It aims to boost food equity in Ward 8 through sliding-scale prices, a garden, and cooking/nutrition classes.
Dig in: Chef Devonte Howard will serve seasonal menus rooted in soul traditions.
- Food is available for dine-in with community seating or carryout.
🎉 Grand opening is Saturday (noon-4pm) with local producers, music and family activities.
