D.C. gets faster NextGen Acela trains this month

Amtrak's new NextGen Acela is launching on Aug. 28, updating rides between D.C., New York and Boston.
Why it matters: Amtrak says the new trains have a "tilt system" for a "smoother, quieter ride," even at top speed of 160 mph.
Zoom in: The interior is built with wide, ergonomic seats with USB power outlets and larger windows to maximize natural light.
- There are new dining menu options, and free 5G WiFi.
- After an initial rollout of five NextGen trains, all 28 are expected to enter service by 2028.
Dig in: A new Cafe Acela will have more food and beverage options, including grab-and-go self-service checkout.
- First class dining has dishes from popular East Coast restauranteur Stephen Starr.
Between the lines: The new trains are 10mph faster than today's fleet, and aim to have 27% more seats per departure.
