A powerful mural was unveiled in Chinatown yesterday to acknowledge victims of gun crime and highlight ongoing efforts for reform.
Zoom in: "We Demand Change" features a portrait of Parkland school shooting victim Joaquin "Guac" Oliver by famed artist Shepard Fairey.(You'll recognize his work from the Obama "Hope" posters and "OBEY" street art campaign).
The artwork, first shown at March for Our Lives rallies held across the U.S. in 2018, was painted over three days near 618 H Street Northwest.
Between the lines: The mural is part of an ongoing event series in D.C. spearheaded by Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and the nonprofit Change the Ref, founded by Oliver's parents to end gun violence.
