New conceptual renderings of the planned pedestrian bridge connecting Crystal City with DCA hint at what the long-anticipated addition to Arlington could look like.
The big picture: CC2DCA will link the airport with the Mount Vernon Trail, Crystal City Metro station and a planned Virginia Railway Express station in National Landing.
- It's been in the works for years, and is one of several neighborhood transportation initiatives Virginia said it would partially fund after Amazon picked National Landing as its HQ2 site in 2018.
- The estimated $57.2 million project is anticipated to be finished by 2029 or 2030, a spokesperson tells Axios.
State of play: The renderings, commissioned by the National Landing BID, show a 20-foot-wide path that can accommodate pedestrians and bikers, with benches, viewpoint areas, landscaping and a canopy.
- It's expected to be 1,200 feet long — around a five-minute walk.
Yes, but: The renderings are only conceptual, and don't represent finalized plans, a county spokesperson told ARL Now.
- The project is currently in the 30% design phase, which is expected to wrap up early next year.
What we're watching: Future bridge users can submit feedback and thoughts on potential designs during a public engagement period through Feb. 16.
