Since the election, a D.C. rage room and axe-throwing bar has become a smash hit.
Why it matters: D.C. folks need to let it all out, and there's a fresh wave of game rooms to do it.
The intrigue: Kraken isn't new, but co-owner Anna Valero says there's fresh interest — and over a 20% business boost — since November.
- She's seeing more "team outings." Even John Oliver, political satire king, recently dropped in with his crew.
What they're saying: "People are like, 'We don't know where to start so we're just going to break some sh--t," says Valero.
- Her other high-activity venues are also buzzing. "It's hard to feel there's no control — movement is the answer."
What's new: The Muni. Logan Circle's retro golf bar opened recently with a "Mad Men-meets-Caddyshack" look, tendies and fry buckets, and icy tallboys.
- Aspiring John Dalys can grab transfusions and test their skills in putting greens or full-swing simulators that can transport golfers to Scotland or California.
Meanwhile, darts bar Flight Club just debuted in Mt. Vernon Triangle. The London-born brand mixes pub vibes with high-tech dart games developed by a NASA scientist.
- Groups are welcome — social dart simulators can entertain up to 300 players, and snack platters beg sharing.
What's next: Continues, a sprawling 70s-style arcade, promises to be anywhere but here — the "porthole to nostalgia" opens soon in Alexandria.
