Beloved WTOP evening anchor Dimitri Sotis passed away over the weekend. He was 55.
The big picture: Friends, colleagues and longtime listeners fondly remember Sotis over his two-plus decades at the local station — a warm voice, kind soul and lifelong radio man who, as a kid, set up a pretend studio in his parent's basement, and who later became an invaluable mentor to many.
Sotis was a friend of Axios, too. All of us D.C. reporters had the good fortune to be welcomed on his airtime, which he often followed with a text of thanks and kind words.
"He was always doing anything he could to really lift the morale in the newsroom, and make sure everybody felt a part of this radio family," WTOP colleague Mike Murillo remembers.
