"Jewish Christmas" is nearly upon us — a sacred time when Jews gather to feast on Chinese food.
Why it matters: More moo shu for us!
Zoom in: Many great Chinese restaurants in the DMV are open on Christmas Eve and Day, serving dine-in and takeout (all of the following are open on both, except when noted).
- They get busy, so make reservations and pre-order online when possible.
A few favorites:
Tiger Fork (Shaw): The buzzy Cantonese restaurant is open for dine-in and takeout on Christmas Eve only, serving Chinese barbecue, combo fried rice and specials like poon choi (a festival meal, in-person only).
Peter Chang's restaurants (DMV): "Changians" flock to Bethesda's Q by Peter Chang, Mama Chang in Fairfax and Dupont's Chang Chang, among the chef's other restaurants, for Peking duck, Szechuan noodles and bubble pancakes. You can also pre-order Peking duck packages to-go ($148, serves four).
A&J Restaurant (Rockville, Annandale): Superb dim sum, made to order, is a big draw at these cozy restaurants. Go for buns, dumplings, Peking wraps and spicy beef noodle soup.
Peking Gourmet Inn (Falls Church): A famous duck house for famous people, with VIP photos lining the walls. Birds carved table-side are a must, plus shrimp with garlic shoots and Scorpion bowls. The old-school restaurant now takes Christmas reservations and online ordering.
Bob's Shanghai 66 (Rockville): You're here for soup dumplings — go for pork "XLB" and pork-crab, and then feast on "Shanghainese tapas" or steaming wonton soups. Order takeout in advance online.
Holy Chow (Silver Spring): This Kosher-Chinese carryout's Christmas is their Super Bowl, as the first and only of its kind. Order in advance (no dine-in).
Han Palace (Woodley Park, Georgetown, Barracks Row): Feast on all-you-can-eat dim sum at these Cantonese restaurants ($38-$48), plus wide-ranging menus of duck, noodles and other specialties (takeout available).
