Fun, relaxing weekend getaways from D.C.

What's new: A bunch of foodie getaways recently launched, all under 150 miles from D.C.

• Fredericksburg's historic "B&B&B," a bed and breakfast and bourbon distillery, sounds perfect now.

For a quick escape, harvest season is a great time to visit Virginia wineries.

• Linden, a charming small town just an hour from the city, is home to some exciting newcomers and standard-bearers.

Thought bubble: Before the small-town holiday escapes, check out late fall festivals. I love Easton's Waterfowl Festival this weekend — great for bird and decoy enthusiasts, dock dogs and anyone who likes Eastern Shore oysters and beer.
