Scoop: New $8.5M D.C. house for sale on "Mansion Murders" lot

State of play: The $8.5 million modern home has six bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a floating staircase, a dog wash and a heated saltwater pool, per the listing.

• The current listing's address is different from the one associated with the "Mansion Murders" house, but both are connected to the same lot.
• Changing the street address is a tactic sometimes used when selling a stigmatized property.

Zoom in: When Axios put in Google Maps directions for the original "Mansion Murders" address, it took us directly to the newly built house.

Plus: The original address is listed in past billing documents under the current address' D.C. property records.

• The square and lot numbers of the two addresses match, per property records, and the lots are the same size.
• And the owner of the currently listed property is an LLC named after the address of the original "Mansion Murders" site.

The property's listing agents didn't respond to Axios' requests for confirmation.

Context: Savvas Savopoulos, his wife, Amy, their 10-year-old son, Philip, and their housekeeper, Veralicia "Vera" Figueroa, were held captive, tortured and killed in 2015 in the family's Massachusetts Avenue Heights home, which was later set on fire.

• Daron Wint, who previously worked for one of the Savopoulos family businesses, was sentenced to life in prison for the murders in 2019.

The fire-damaged home sold a few months later for $3 million — a steal for such a tony neighborhood and well below its pre-incident assessed value of almost $4.6 million, reports the Washington Post.

• The buyers tore down the existing house and eventually sold the lot for $2.6 million to an owner who planned to "build a modern home," per the Post.
