Some buildings near the White House are boarding up ahead of the election

Crews boarded up some businesses and buildings near the White House on Thursday.

The big picture: D.C. is upping security ahead of the election — and the anxiety is rising.

What we're seeing: Two buildings were boarded up — 1750 Pennsylvania Avenue and 750 17th Street — including ground-floor businesses like McDonald's and the U.S. Post Office. It's unclear if the businesses had any say.

Reality check: Most buildings by the White House haven't taken such measures.
