While some Washingtonians rushed to get married during COVID, city marriage license numbers declined overall during the pandemic, per D.C. Superior Court data.
The big picture: D.C. mirrored the national trend of marriage numbers dropping during the pandemic, but then rebounding after.
By the numbers: The number of marriage licenses issued in D.C. dropped from 5,654 in 2019 to 4,730 in 2020 — a 16% decline.
But last year's number of D.C. marriage licenses jumped to 5,802 — a 3% increase from pre-COVID numbers.
