José Andrés Group is opening a luxe hotel and private club in Georgetown

Zoom in: The Bazaar House by José Andrés will have 67 rooms, a private membership club, an "expansive" wellness center, high-end retail shops, and multiple food and beverage venues.

• The ambitious complex off M Street is a joint venture with Thor Equities, a global developer behind luxury hotel properties in New York City and Mexico.

The intrigue: "The private club will be a focal point of the project," according to José Andrés Group spokespersons. Pricing and availability are still TBD, but the membership will include "exclusive benefits and venues," including the penthouse Bazaar Club.

The big picture: This past spring, José Andrés stepped down as CEO from the renowned hospitality group he founded, which includes 40 restaurants and bars and a multi-media platform. The move came just as they received a major investment from RockCreek, a firm with more than $17 billion in assets, Washingtonian reports.

• New CEO Sam Bakhshandehpour is tracking a new growth model for the company that focuses on hotels.

Flashback: The property at 3000 M Street once housed the Latham Hotel and Citronelle restaurant from late legend Michel Richard.

• It's been vacant since 2012. When Thor Equities acquired it in 2016, Thor CEO described the abandoned property as "vacant, run-down, decrepit," snagging it for over $53 million.

Between the lines: The Bazaar House isn't the only private club coming online. Soho House creators will open The Ned near the White House with ambitions for a pre-inauguration debut.
