D.C.'s Irish population sits below the national average

Only 7.4% of people in D.C. are of Irish ancestry, compared to the national county average of 9.5%, per 2022 census data.
Why it matters: If you smooch someone wearing a "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" T-shirt at a D.C. bar this St. Patrick's Day, there's a good chance they might … not actually be Irish.
