,,Women's History Month brings a bunch of cool events to the table.
Why it matters: The celebration of female contribution and creativity spans art, theater, food, and more.
๐ฉโ๐ณ Regarding Her Women's Food Festival (Through March 31): Over 40 local woman-owned food businesses are hosting classes, ticketed dinners, pop-ups, and more.
- This is just a sample: A big-name chef collab dinner on Sunday at Centrolina, weekly "Women Crush Wednesdays" at Last Call Bar, and a Beye Beignets pop-up at Colada Shop (March 23-24).
๐จ National Museum of Women in the Arts (Through March): The newly reopened museum is programmed through the month, including a festival on International Women's Day (March 8) with yoga classes, flash tattooing, a virtual talk by art historian Ferren Gipson, and gallery tours.
๐๐ฟโโ๏ธHerStory 5K Run (March 9): Trot, don't walk, to this free kid and dog-friendly race from Freedom Plaza launched by Mayor Bowser.
๐ฉโ๐จWomen's History Month Art Festival (March 9): The National Portrait Gallery hosts a free festival in its courtyard. Visit new portraits of Oprah, Beyoncรฉ, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and then head out for free ballet performances, book signings, and discussions.
๐ฅ Afternoon Tea + Dim Sum (March 24): Join D.C.'s top pastry chefs and star talents from NYC and Philly at Moon Rabbit for sweets, cocktails, dim sum, and a panel led by Cherry Bombe's Jessie Sheehan of the #1 baking podcast "She's My Cherry Pie." Tickets are $145.
๐ญ "Tempestuous Elements" at Arena Stage (Through March 17): The play about Black feminist and D.C. school principal Anna Julia Cooper follows her fight for educational equity.
๐ท "Dorothea Lange: Seeing People" (Through March 31)" The National Gallery of Art showcases roughly 100 images from the great 20th-century photographer. You can also check out gallery talks on women artists throughout the month.
