With President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump clinching each of their party's nominations in Virginia's Super Tuesday primaries, the D.C. region is one step closer to knowing who's going to be our neighbor-slash-Commander-in-Chief come January.
Why it matters: It's the lead-up to an already neck-and-neck race that'll likely end up feeling like one long marathon once November rolls around, especially in a politically obsessed area like ours.
Zoom in: Currently, Biden is outpacing Trump when it comes to Virginia presidential campaign contributions, a state Biden won handily in 2020.
- While Trump is the Republican frontrunner when it comes to Virginia dollars, Nikki Haley is close behind.

Meanwhile, Biden has far and away received the most contributions from campaign donors in D.C., where he won 93% of the presidential vote in 2020.
- Haley comes in second after she snagged D.C.'s Republican primary last weekend — her first 2024 win and making her the first woman ever to win a Republican primary.
What we're watching: Maryland — which also went for Biden in 2020 — will hold its presidential primary on May 14.
