Hourcar shutting down car sharing service

By the numbers: Hourcar has over 4,000 members in the Twin Cities, and the service was used 670,000 times over its history.

What they're saying: CEO Amanda LaGrange told the Star Tribune that rising car insurance rates, a loss of government and philanthropic grants contributed to a $1.1 million deficit.

• An infusion of $475,000 from St. Paul and Minneapolis weren't enough to close the gap, she said.

What we're watching: Members of the carshare service are organizing to save Hourcar.
