New "Little House on the Prairie" show not in Minnesota ... yet

Last weekend's release of the Netflix reboot of "Little House on the Prairie" is getting solid reviews, but don't expect a Minnesota setting.

Zoom in: The first season is set completely in Independence, Kansas, which, as Star Tribune TV writer Neal Justin points out, is true to the books.

In fact, the Netflix remake is much more accurate to Laura Ingalls Wilder's books than the 1970s-1980s show that was almost entirely set in Minnesota, Justin writes. That means it's darker than the cheery original show.

Yes, but: The series has already been renewed for a second season and it will be set in the southwest Minnesota town of Walnut Grove, per People.

Reality check: Production of the show is in Winnipeg. That means no use of Minnesota's new film tax credits for this one.
