Minnesota Vikings sign Kyler Murray

Between the lines: This is a low-risk bet with the potential for a big payoff.

• The Vikings are paying Murray the league minimum of salary of $1.3 million because he's still being paid $36.8 million by the Cardinals, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

What we're watching: How J.J. McCarthy responds to the signing. The Vikings have said they still believe in the 23-year-old quarterback they drafted 10th overall in 2024, but signing someone as accomplished as Murray raises some doubts about that.

• The team has not said yet whether Murray is being handed the job or if there will be a competition.

Nick's thought bubble: This is a no brainer for the Vikings. He may not be the perfect fit for O'Connell's system and it might not work out. But either way, it's going to be fun to watch Murray's circus throws, dizzying scrambles and breakaway speed.
