"We're working to not only restore the land itself, but also restore the culture to the site."
— Shelley Buck, president of the Dakota-led non-profit Owámniyomni Okhódayapi
Buck's group plans to begin work this spring on a long-awaited project to restore the riverfront near the Upper Lock at St. Anthony Falls, she told Mpls.St.Paul Magazine this week.
This year, native plants will be reintroduced and construction will begin on a walking path underneath the Stone Arch Bridge.
What's next: Construction of a 25-foot cascade — meant to restore water flow through the mill race below the bridge — should begin next year.
