Nicollet Avenue bridge over Minnehaha to close for 2 years

Catch up quick: The 103-year-old historic bridge has not been rehabbed in 50 years. The $55.2 million project received a $34.3 million federal grant in 2024.

Friction point: This is the Tangletown neighborhood and it's called that for a reason. Detours to nearby side streets will be mostly useless unless you like driving in circles.

• The city is sending motorists west to Lyndale Avenue via 50th Street and Diamond Lake Road.
• Pedestrians and bicyclists using the parkway below will be sent up a large hill to the south of the bridge and will have to cross over at street level on Nicollet.
• Access to businesses and homes will be maintained.

Editor's note: This story has been corrected to say the Nicollet Avenue bridge over Minnehaha Creek will close for construction on March 2 (not March 3).
