The scintillating possibility of pairing Anthony Edwards with Giannis Antetokounmpo would come at a steep cost for the Timberwolves.
State of play: With the NBA trade deadline coming at 2pm tomorrow, multiple basketball insiders say the Wolves are one of a handful of teams in talks with the Milwaukee Bucks to acquire "The Greek Freak."
They traded away Mike Conley Jr. yesterday to clear salary space for a potential big move.
Why it matters: Such a deal would be high-risk, high reward. It would likely require the Wolves to part with Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle and maybe fan favorite Naz Reid — depending on which NBA insider you follow — to get the two-time MVP.
Between the lines: Reid and McDaniels have played alongside Ant his whole career and they're two of his best friends.
If top basketball executive Tim Connelly blows that up, he'd be betting big that the Wolves could make a title run in the near future with two mega-stars and little depth.
Threat level: Giannis is 31 and has struggled with injuries in recent years.
If the gambit didn't win a title, it's easy to see how Ant might want out of Minnesota after a couple seasons.
What we're watching: If they don't go all-in on Giannis, the team could swing a smaller deal to bring in a guard to play alongside Ant.
