Why you'll see blue and green ribbons along the Twin Cities Marathon route

Hundreds of blue and green ribbons honoring Annunciation shooting victims will line historic Summit Avenue for this weekend's Twin Cities Marathon.

Why it matters: Bows in the school's colors are already a familiar sight on trees and signposts throughout South Minneapolis, including along the stretch of the marathon route that runs through the Chain of Lakes.

• Kristen Lyrek, who helped organize an effort to bring them to St. Paul, told the Pioneer Press she wanted to show neighbors in Minneapolis — and the droves of visiting runners — "that we all stand together, and we haven't forgotten."
