Another Democrat jumps in the race for Minnesota's most competitive congressional seat

Catch up fast: U.S. Rep. Angie Craig's decision to run for U.S. Senate next year created an open race for the suburban district, which she won by 13 points in 2024 after more narrow victories in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

• The Cook Political Report currently rates the race "likely Democrat."

Zoom in: Berg, a three-term legislator, labor consultant and flight attendant, entered the race with the backing of Emily's List, the influential PAC that boosts female candidates who support abortion rights.

• That's notable because local exit polling found that abortion was a top issue for voters in the district in both 2022 and 2024.

What's next: Candidates will compete for their party's endorsement ahead of the August 2026 primary.

• Berg and Klein both plan to compete in the DFL primary, regardless of whether they get the endorsement, per the Star Tribune.
