MPR meteorologist Paul Huttner says a large, warm blob of water in the North Pacific Ocean could create similar weather patterns to 2013-2014.
That was the notorious polar vortex winter in which the Twin Cities had 53 subzero nights and 70 inches of snow.
From the Minnesota DNR's recap of that miserable winter:
"A generation of elementary and high school children will not forget January 2014. This was the month that had five days of school canceled due to the wind chills in the Twin Cities."
