Marchers stretched well over a mile yesterday as they walked to show unity and demand reforms in the wake of the Annunciation shooting.
What they're saying: Mayor Jacob Frey repeated his call for the state and federal government to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines.
"We're not talking about your father's hunting rifle," he told the crowd, which marched from Lake Harriet to Annunciation. "We're talking about the ability to reel off 30 rounds without having to reload."
👀 Gov. Tim Walz is weighing calling a special session for the Legislature to consider legislation in response to the Annunciation shooting, a senior administration official tells Axios.
Reality check: Any special session proposals would likely need bipartisan support in both chambers, given the narrow divide in the House, current vacancies in the Senate and varying gun stances among DFL lawmakers.
Republicans dismissed the idea as a partisan stunt, saying the governor hadn't reached out to them before floating it.
Hennepin Healthcare said yesterday three patients from Annunciation remain in the hospital, two of whom are children, according to KARE 11.
One child is in critical condition. The other child and an adult are in satisfactory condition.
As of Friday, six of seven patients at Children's Minnesota had been discharged.
