Who the Vikings could take in NFL Draft

The Vikings are headed into enemy territory for tonight's NFL Draft in Green Bay.

Why it matters: While the team has no glaring hole on the roster thanks to a busy free agency period, it has the chance to beef up the offensive and defensive lines, or provide more depth in the secondary.

State of play: The Vikings hold the 24th selection, which means, barring a trade, they will pick sometime around 10pm.

• They have only three picks after that — nos. 97, 139 and 187 — all of which will happen Friday and Saturday.

What they're saying: After combing through more than a dozen mock drafts by local and national writers, here are some names to watch when the Vikings are on the clock:

• South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori
• Cornerbacks Maxwell Hairston of Kentucky or Jahdae Barron of Texas
• North Dakota State offensive lineman Grey Zabel, a South Dakota native
• Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon

The intrigue: Some writers think the Vikings might ignore areas of need and draft a wide receiver to give quarterback J.J. McCarthy yet another weapon. This is how they ended up with Randy Moss in 1998.

The bottom line: Tonight is vital for Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who has had more misses than hits in his first three drafts since taking over as the team's general manager.
