Vikings reportedly considering Aaron Rodgers

Sixteen years after a news helicopter followed Brett Favre from the airport to Vikings training camp like he was O.J. Simpson, the circus could be coming back to the Twin Cities.

The latest: Citing anonymous sources, The Athletic reported over the weekend that Aaron Rodgers wants to sign with the Vikings and that head coach Kevin O'Connell is wrestling with the decision to bring in the polarizing quarterback.

State of play: Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl winner and a future Hall of Famer. But he turns 42 in December and hasn't played at an elite level since 2021, when he was with the rival Green Bay Packers.

Friction point: O'Connell will need to decide if he wants to roll the dice with Rodgers, who risks disrupting a tight-knit locker room without many egos, in hopes that Rodgers could recapture his form and guide them to the franchise's first Super Bowl trophy.

He also needs to decide if wants to delay the ascension of 22-year-old quarterback J.J. McCarthy, whom the team drafted in the first round in 2024.
