We tried it: Kajiken's abura soba in Richfield

The fast-growing Kajiken restaurant chain has arrived in Richfield along with its speciality: abura soba, or a brothless ramen.

Dig in: Abura soba has thick, almost chewy noodles that are served over an oily, garlicky sauce. As the directions on each table indicate, you toss the noodles and other toppings in this sauce before eating.

What I tried: The Niku Miso ($17.50), which includes chashu (braised pork belly), minced pork, bamboo shoots and a poached egg.

💭 My thought bubble: I was a little hesitant because I love ramen, but this was delicious and super filing. Plus, the lack of broth means abura soba typically has fewer calories than ramen.

What to expect: Nine varieties of abura soba, mostly priced at $14.50. There's also a selection of ramen and donburi bowls.
