Want to level up your Halloween decor? Meet the skeleton artist

Flashback: Carr and his family transformed the yard into a "Lake Scarriet" class photo last year and into a comedy club the year before that.

• He now offers his "skeleton artist" services to homeowners and businesses.

Between the bones: Clothing over a dozen skeletons "usually means multiple trips to multiple Goodwills," Carr tells Axios.

• "I wasn't up for the expense or the effort for all that this year."

The big, scary picture: People are springing, sometimes months in advance, to frighten up the house for Halloween.

• Decorations account for nearly a third of total spooky spending, which is expected to reach $11.6 billion this year, according to a National Retail Federation survey.

How it works: "[A]s the October breeze blows, they're almost like natural animatronics," Carr says of the skeletons, suspended in position like marionettes.

• He jams to music by local band Count Spookula while working in his garage "creature shop."
