J.J. McCarthy has a torn meniscus, and Vikings fans are screaming

State of play: Vikings fans were unsure of McCarthy when the team selected him with the 10th overall pick in April's draft.

• A cleanup usually keeps athletes out for a few weeks. A repair takes months to bounce back from.

The bottom line: At best this is only a short delay in McCarthy's development. At worst it could erase his entire rookie season.
