Water creeping up in St. Paul

The Mississippi River in St. Paul reached major flood stage yesterday, hitting 17.1 feet.

• Standing water covered much of Harriet Island and it crept close to the walls of the Clarence W. Wigington Pavilion, pictured above in tan stone.

Threat level: The National Weather Service is forecasting a 20.9-foot crest on Friday night or Saturday morning.

In other flood news:

💧A breached dam outside Mankato remains standing and officials are hopeful it will survive.

• But a home that had been teetering at the dam's edge fell into the floodwaters last night.

🎡 Flooding from the Minnesota River in Shakopee shut down several rides at Valleyfair, though the park remains open.

💩 Manure pits of over a dozen feedlots have overflowed, promoting concerns about environmental damage from livestock waste, the Star Tribune reports.
