Thousands of runners — and their fans — braved the rain along the North Shore of Lake Superior for the 48th-annual Grandma's Marathon on Saturday morning.
Why it matters: Known to runners worldwide as a destination race, Grandma's was the nation's 10th-largest marathon last year.
It's the largest to take place outside a major metropolitan area, taking a scenic course from outside Two Harbors to Duluth's Canal Park.
By the numbers: Race organizers told WDIO-TV that 7,525 runners finished this year's marathon, which sets a new record. Thousands more came to town to run 5k and half marathon races.
💭 Kyle's thought bubble: I ran the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon with my brother and his fiancée.
For us, the weather was perfect for running: cool and misty. We started earlier than the full marathoners, so the heaviest rain held off until after we finished.
