What's new and boozy at the Minnesota State Fair this year

Minnesota State Fair vendors are tapping into the popularity of hard seltzers and slushies this year.

Driving the news: The fair on Tuesday announced a lineup of 56 new drinks exclusive to the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

  • Six of them are slushies and four are hard seltzers. A couple are even slushies with hard seltzer. A sign of the times.

The big picture: Hard seltzers have been gaining in popularity, especially in Minnesota. But with a one-year state fair hiatus, vendors weren't able to concoct any crazy new drinks.

  • This year, it looks like local breweries are going sweet. Look out for hard seltzers with flavors like caramel apple and cotton candy.

What we're eyeing: There's also a lineup of new beers, including the Clasico Salted Lime Cream Ale by Bent Paddle. Axios' Nick Halter wants to visit the Ball Park Cafe to try that one.

  • Audrey Kennedy wants to try the Mango Sangria from Cannon Valley Winery at the Minnesota Wine Country stand.
  • Torey Van Oot's interested in the Outboard Motor Ale, a citrusy blonde ale by Coronado Brewing Company at Giggles’ Campfire Grill.
