Independent theater-goers, rejoice! After almost a year of radio silence, St. Anthony Main Theatre is reopening Thursday with a mix of mainstream releases along with indie and international films.
Driving the news: MSP Film Society is hosting a dual premiere at St. Anthony Main Thursday night, its first in-person screenings at the Minneapolis theater in roughly 15 months.
- The group organizes niche films festivals and daily screenings across the Twin Cities, but primarily operates out of the five-screen St. Anthony Main Theatre, which has been shuttered since July 19.
What to watch: St. Anthony Main is currently showing "F9: The Fast Saga," "A Quiet Place Part II" and "The Forever Purge." Film Society programming has expanded to two screens, and it's kicking off this week with:
- "Summer of 85," which promises to be "a sexy, nostalgic French drama about first love and its consequences."
- "Summer of Soul," a Questlove-directed documentary on the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival celebrating Black history, culture, music and fashion.
Our take: Audrey is looking forward to ordering copious amounts of the best movie theater popcorn in the Twin Cities.
