San Diego Dems: Shut it down over ICE shootings

San Diego's four Democratic congressional representatives say they support shutting down the government over ICE funding and want Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem impeached.

The big picture: With some government funding lapsing on Friday, Senate Democrats are making a last-minute push for DHS reforms after the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota.

Driving the news: At a news conference Tuesday, U.S. Reps. Scott Peters, Sara Jacobs, Mike Levin and Juan Vargas backed the effort and called for the passage of Peters' Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act, which would ban agents from using tear gas, flash-bangs and masks and would require that they wear always-on body cameras.

"This is not the only thing we should do, but it's the first thing we should do," Peters said at the news conference.

What they're saying: Vargas called ICE "a rogue agency" and said it's "completely out of control."

"They are shooting people who are unarmed and actually trying to leave the scene," Jacobs added. "ICE and Border Patrol are on a rampage, and that's why we have to stop them."
