We asked you, our dear readers, recently for suggestions on where to bring out-of-town guests. And boy, did you deliver.
Here are some of the highlights:
🍽️ Restaurants
🌮 "Las Olas in Encinitas ... don't need to say more," Jackie writes.
🍤 "Fathom Bistro Bait and Tackle on Shelter Island ... Then, stop by the Bali Hai for a Mr. Bali Hai cocktail," Lori suggests.
🍕 Mom's Pizza off Sorrento Valley Rd, Faisal suggests.
- "A hidden gem in an industrial part of town. Don't miss out on the Garlic knots. Order two."
🍷 Seneca for the view and ambiance, Patrick suggests.
🕵️♂️ Piper says, "Take them to the secret bar in Little Italy (False Idol)."
- Done!
☕️ Carlos suggests Mixed Grounds Coffee in North Park.
🐠 Cathy suggests Point Loma Seafoods.
👀 Sights to see
🌃 "Drive to the coast (La Jolla, top of Mt Soledad, etc. ...) in the evening and observe how bright the Tijuana lightscape is compared to the US side of the border. It's a great way to visually understand how integrated San Diego is as a bi-national city/community," Dave suggests.
⛸ "Visit the Hotel Del Coronado with its magnificent Christmas tree, decorations and light show for the holidays. Walk along the beach, ice skate, have a drink and watch the sunset. You could even take the ferry," a reader wrote in.
- We did exactly this!
⛴️ Taletta had several suggestions: The California Tower, boogie boarding at La Jolla Shores, kayaking to the caves in La Jolla, walking in Balboa Park and whale watching.
🚲 Patrick suggests a beach cruiser ride around Mission Bay and the Pacific Beach boardwalk.
🥾 Hikes
🏞️ Mary suggests walking the historic footbridges in the Bankers Hill area.
- "The Spruce Street bridge is soooo much fun and in a pretty hood," she says.
🏄♂️ Another reader suggests a walk at Torrey Pines Gliderport.
💦 Three Sisters Waterfalls, Patrick suggests.
🌊 Joanne suggests a hike around Cabrillo National Monument.
🚽 And Cathy suggests following that up with an unusual tour: the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Facility.
- "Not everyone gets to visit a wastewater treatment plant on their day tour, it would be memorable! And yes, it stinks a little, but the ocean breezes are wonderful, and the seals below are a little stinky too."
