San Diego FC took down the Portland Timbers 2-1 Sunday night to win the club's first-ever MLS playoff game.
Why it matters: SDFC's record-setting season continues after winning Game 1 in this best-of-three series.
- A sellout crowd of more than 30,000 fans packed Snapdragon Stadium for the historic game.
State of play: Onni Valakari scored the first goal for San Diego, and Anders Dreyer finished one a few minutes later to put SDFC up 2-0 within the first 30 minutes.
- The crowd erupted with "MVP" chants for Dreyer, who's a finalist for the MLS's MVP and Newcomer of the Year awards.
- Hirving "Chucky" Lozano did not dress or play because of an internal issue.
The intrigue: SDFC coach Mikey Varas was named a finalist for the MLS Coach of the Year Award as he leads the expansion club in its historic inaugural season.
What's next: San Diego travels to Portland for Game 2 of the series on Saturday, Nov. 1.
