Several "No Kings" rallies are planned for Saturday around San Diego as millions are expected to gather across the county.
Why it matters: The latest round of protests comes amid growing frustration about the ongoing government shutdown and widespread opposition to President Trump's attempted military deployments to Democrat-led cities across America.
Zoom in: More than a dozen demonstrations are planned throughout San Diego County, including in Chula Vista, La Jolla, El Cajon, Mira Mesa, Del Mar and Carlsbad.
- Organizers of the march and rally at Waterfront Park downtown expect a bigger crowd than the 80,000 they estimated showed up to the June protest.
State of play: More than 2,500 events are planned across all 50 states as of Monday, organizers said.
- "Together, millions will send a clear and unmistakable message: we are a nation of equals, and our country will not be ruled by fear or force," their statement said.
The other side: The recurring movement against the Trump administration has garnered sharp criticism from top Republican lawmakers who've called it "a hate America rally" and claim Democrats are protesting as a ploy during the government shutdown.
The intrigue: On the same day, Vice President JD Vance will visit Camp Pendleton for an amphibious assault demonstration that's part of the U.S. Navy and the Marines' 250th birthday celebration.
- The military event that's expected to draw 15,000 attendees sparked another feud between Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Trump administration over safety concerns of live fire that could lead to road closures, but I-5 will remain open.
