State of play: About 70 dogs will show off their skills riding waves to win the "Top Surf Dog" title, while raising money for the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
They compete 10-minute heats based on weight class, and are judged on the length of the ride, wave size, and tricks on the board.
There's also a freestyle competition for the more creative pups and humans, plus a costume contest.
Zoom in: Watch the fun from the beach, and enjoy live music, kids activities, pet vendors, a dog agility course and the Hily dating app's singles meet-up booth.
The event is free for spectators, but donations are encouraged.
If you go: The event runs from 8am–2pm.
Metered street parking will be tight, but you can park on the corner of Via De La Valle and Highway 101 for a $25 donation.
