No other San Diego Wave FC player will wear No. 13 as the team retires Alex Morgan's jersey.
Why it matters: Morgan's legacy will be further cemented with the club she has helped build as a player, captain, all-time leading goal scorer and investor.
What they're saying: "She helped lay the foundation for this Club and elevated the standard for what women's soccer is today," Wave owner Lauren Leichtman said in a statement.
"She made this city her home, inspired our fans and community, and helped define who we are. Her impact will be felt for generations, and it's only fitting that her number becomes a permanent part of Wave FC history."
What's next: The ceremony will be held during the game against the Houston Dash on Sept. 7 at Snapdragon Stadium.
