We didn't get an Eras Tour show, but Taylor Swift was still San Diego's top artist on Spotify Wrapped this year. "Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology" was the top album, proving we can do it with a broken heart.
Why it matters: The yearly music recap flooding social media reveals our listening habits and fanhood.
- Plus, it shows whether your friends have good taste in music.
Driving the news: In addition to being Swifties, San Diegans were deeply invested in the Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud as both rappers were top artists in the metro area's 2024 Spotify Wrapped.
- Our allegiance appears to be with Drake, who ranked second (Andy's note: 🫣). Maybe that's why Kendrick Lamar and SZA's tour is skipping San Diego.
- Yes, but: Kendrick Lamar took fifth, with "Not Like Us" ranking as the third most-streamed song.
- Peso Pluma and Kanye West rounded out the top five artists.
The big picture: 2024 was for the girls, mostly Swift.
- Women dominated this year's Spotify Wrapped, accounting for eight of the top 10 most-streamed albums globally.
- The top three were Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department," "Hit Me Hard and Soft" by Billie Eilish and "Short n' Sweet" by Sabrina Carpenter.
Zoom in: Those were also San Diego's top three albums, followed by "SOS" by SZA and "ÉXODO" by Peso Pluma.
- The other top songs: "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter, "Birds of a Feather" by Billie Eilish, "Good Luck, Babe!" by Chappell Roan and "Million Dollar Baby" by Tommy Richman.
🎶 Andy's playlist: My top five artists this year were Vampire Weekend, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Good Looks, LA LOM and Geese (not Goose, crucially).
- Shoutout to MJ Lenderman and Waxahatchee, who were also heavily represented.
🎤 Kate's playlist: Chelsea Cutler, Vampire Weekend and Coldplay were my top artists on Spotify this year.
- Yes, but: I'm an Apple Music girl, so my Replay '24 is more accurate. Kygo was my top artist, followed by Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Surfaces and Kacey Musgraves.
