Frontwave Arena — with Belly Up's help — is in the live-music game

Driving the news: Belly Up Entertainment announced Monday it's presenting Frontwave's first concert on Oct. 5, a headlining show from mid-90s alt rock standouts Cake.

• Other shows at the arena this year include the hard-rock festival Rocktoberfest on Oct. 12, Monsters of Hip Hop on Oct. 26, and Freestyle Explosion on Nov. 2.

Between the lines: Belly Up is not exclusively booking Frontwave, as it does with The Sound in Del Mar, but is expecting to put on more shows there.

• "We have other irons in the fire," said Chris Goldsmith, president of Belly Up Entertainment. "We're looking forward to working up there on a consistent basis."

Zoom in: Goldsmith said he expects the brand-new arena to be a treat for concert goers, with a capacity of 5,500 for the Cake concert, compared to a typical 18,000-seat arena. "This is different — it's an intimate arena," he said.

• "People are going to be really happy this is in San Diego," he said. "I know the people in charge of its audio design, and how much thought went into concerts specifically."
