👏 Congrats to Louise X. for sending the EXACT location of these hand-painted utility boxes at the corner of Sixth and University avenues in Hillcrest.
Why it matters: Dozens of these mini murals are part of a community effort to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and brighten up the street ahead of the city's annual Pride parade that attracts hundreds of thousands of people to Hillcrest in July.
Zoom in: The rainbow, raised-fist electric box was painted by local artists Selina Calvo and Chikle! to show that "representation matters and commUNITY matters," they wrote on Instagram.
Betty Bangs, a local Chicana artist, invited Calvo/Chikle! and others from San Diego and Tijuana to join her in the project that's funded by the Hillcrest Business Association, NBC7 reported.
