State of play: A union representing some 29,000 professors, librarians, coaches and other staff at the nation's largest four-year public university system initiated the strike to reopen contract negotiations. Demands included pay increases, extended parental leave and minimum course cap standards.
Earlier this month, the union delivered four proposals to the CSU management bargaining team, who walked out of negotiations and threatened systemwide layoffs before making a final offer, per CFA.
Details: In a Monday email to faculty members, the California Faculty Association said the agreement includes:
Retroactive plus future 5% salary increases for faculty (contingent on state funding)
$3,000 increase in minimum pay for the lowest-paid faculty
2.65% salary step increase for 2024-25
10 weeks of paid parental leave (up from six)
Improved access to gender-inclusive restrooms and lactation spaces, and more.
