Opafe Bakery brings creative coffee, desserts to SouthSide Works

Croissants take center stage at Opafe Bakery, a new pastry shop at SouthSide Works.
The big picture: The 4,200-square-foot bakery at 2720 Sidney St. comes from Pittsburgh-based Opal Group, the budding hospitality company behind Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings and Okane.
Dig in: The menu features roughly two dozen flavored croissants and danishes ($6-$8), plus buns ($5-$6), hard-to-find fruit mousses like strawberry, blueberry, and lemon ($10-$13), donuts ($5), cakes and cookies.
- Drinks range from fruit and milk teas ($6-$8) to classic coffees and creative twists like Vietnamese coffee topped with black sesame foam or ube cold foam ($7-$9).
- The raspberry danish ($6) was flaky, with a satisfying balance of tartness and richness. The iced white mocha ($6.25) delivered a welcome midweek pick-me-up.
The vibe: The modern space features a cascading croissant installation along one wall, ample seating, Wi-Fi, oversized croissant-shaped lounge chairs and about a dozen capsule toy and claw machines.
How it works: Order your drink at the self-service kiosk or browse the selection of pastries and serve yourself, then check out at the counter.
