New Downtown spot serves sushi, matcha and rooftop cocktails

You can spend lunch, dinner and late-night all at one new spot near Market Square.
The intrigue: Okane took over for the Sushi I spot on Fourth Street, and offers three different Japanese food experiences: casual grab-and-go, fine dining and a social vibe with cocktails and bites.
Driving the news: Okane held a grand opening last week, after a few weeks in a soft open phase.
Zoom in: The bottom floor is a grab-and-go spot called the Sweet Spot, specializing in Asian drinks like matchas, milky coffees and specialty iced teas, as well as pastries.
- The second floor is a fine dining experience called Omakase that offers a rotating chef’s tasting menu of fresh high-end sushi and other Japanese delicacies.
- The top floor is a rooftop bar with neon lights and greenery in an open setting meant to encourage socializing.
Dig in: The Vietnamese iced coffee with a thick ube cold foam is strong, sweet and decadent.
- Wagyu tartare is a people-pleaser with intense beef flavor.
- The amaebi pani puri is a sweet shrimp and creamy avocado inside a crispy and lightly fried pastry shell.
What they’re saying: Mayor Corey O’Connor was on hand for the grand opening and said matchas would be a great St. Patrick’s Day parade drink. He reminisced about the green drinks he enjoyed during parade day when Harris Grille used to run the spot.
Context: Okane is owned by the Opal Group, which is also opening a massive buffet in the Waterfront in Homestead and operates Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings in South Side.
